“What can you do for the Philippines?” That’s what we asked kids in the Philippines’ first ever Doodle4Google contest.
Kim Patrick S. Saren’s doodle was chosen among 51,000 entries from all over the country and is featured on www.google.com.ph today. He blended two colorful representations of Philippine culture—the mythical sarimanok bird and the jeepney, the most popular form of transport in the country. The “sari-jeepney,” with its plumes at the end, symbolizes how problems like traffic congestion can only be solved by flying high with pride and honor.
To see our nation’s aspirations from our childrens’ points of view was very inspiring—from having a preserved and protected environment, to paved roads that don’t flood, to providing food and good health for the poor, to competing globally to bring pride to our country.
