In Pakistan, women account for only one-fourth of the country’s total workforce, and just a fraction of the country’s business owners. The Internet is already helping
some women in Pakistan bridge this gap, but there’s still a long way to go.
That’s why we’re supporting the
Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) and the
Google Business Group in Pakistan’s Women on the Web (WoW) program, which kicked off in Islamabad on Tuesday, and aims to help more than 1,000 women across Pakistan use the Internet to launch and scale their businesses online.
The program will include quarterly workshops in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, as well as training and mentoring to help women entrepreneurs expand their web presence, connect with new customers, and capture the benefits of working and collaborating online.
We’re hoping this will help even a few women start or grow an online business in Pakistan, and that men will get involved too, like the father and his two six-year old girls who attended the event. His daughters love to bake, and he wants to help them turn their hobby into a passion for entrepreneurship by showing them the great business opportunities to be gained from being on the web.
GBG Pakistan, which you can follow on
Google+,
Twitter or
Facebook, will make more information available as WoW rolls out in the coming months.
